Judy and Ronald Culp
Other works
Judy spent twenty-something-ish years in public and private schools teaching theatre, English,
and journalism.  I. E. Clark Publications now offers two bilingual plays that she co-authored with
Susan Johns, Spanish teacher and colleague.

Title:  JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
This classic fairy tale now comes with a new twist. Judy Culp and Susan Johns have written
the play in such a way that it is available in three formats: English, Spanish, and Spanish with
English narration. Thus, if you are performing for a diversified audience or a Spanish class you
could use the dual Spanish/English version, or, if you are performing for an audience that
speaks either primarily English or Spanish, the appropriate version of the play could be done
while dropping the other version.

unbridled imaginations, old characters with new names and faces, and a bilingual spin. Like
their other tale, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs is available in English, Spanish,
and Spanish with English narration, allowing you to decide which version is best for you and
your actors. Each version has a running time of 8 minutes.

Nonfiction articles and reference works
World War II magazine

Ronald's nonfiction article "Tuskegee Marine" was published in the November 2005 issue of
World War II magazine.  The existence of African American Marines in World War II, their
experiences and contributions, are known to only a small segment  of the American population.
Until the summer of 1942 the Marine Corps resolutely held to the color line; it was white,
exclusively, and had been since the establishment of the United States Marine Corps in 1798.
While it is true that black men had served as Continental Marines during the Revolutionary War,
no African American had ever worn the eagle, globe, and anchor emblem of a United States
Marine.  But, in 1942, the Corps enlisted the first men to form a 900-man combat battalion of
African Americans, the 51st Composite Defense Battalion.
"Tuskegee Marine" describes the experiences of Private Herbert Lawrence Brewer, a former
Tuskegee Institute student from San Antonio, Texas.  Brewer was one of the first African
Americans to volunteer for service in the Marine Corps in 1942.  He served on a 90mm
antiaircraft gun crew in the 51st Defense Battalion stationed in the Ellice Islands in the South
Pacific.  While there he and his friend Fred Branch were selected for the Navy's V-12 program
in 1944.  Brewer earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering at Purdue University and became the
second African American  to be commissioned as a Marine officer.  He went on to earn his
Masters Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, eventually retiring as a Colonel.

ABC-CLIO Reference Products

Judy and Ronald prepared encyclopedia entries on "Cavalry Tactics in the Civil War,"  "The
Henry Rifle,"  Union spy "Sarah Thompson," World War II British entertainer "Vera Lynn," the
British "Women's Land Army" in World War II, and "British Signals Intelligence in World War II."
These are part of ABC-CLIO's developing Military History Series produce entitled "The United
States at War:  Understanding Conflict and Society."  The product covers all aspects of
fourteen major conflicts in United States history, from military engagements to social change.
In the November 2004 issue, PLAYS magazine published Judy's one-act play "Dear Journal" for
middle- and high-school students.  Judy has also written and directed religious plays.
